Coastguard is the charity saving lives at sea. With 83 Rescue Vessels, 2 search aircraft and radio communications centres around Aotearoa, Coastguard volunteers are dedicated to bringing kiwi’s home to their loved ones every day.
Our 2,000 volunteers are on-call 24/7 and come from all walks of life – your local mechanic, hairdresser, café owner and accountant.
Last year our volunteers:
- gave over 270,000 hours,
- bringing 6,054 people home.
We are immensely proud of our volunteer team, who dedicate a huge amount of their spare time to keeping their fellow Kiwi’s safe.
Your support can help us with volunteer training, making sure our crews are rescue ready when your community needs them the most!
“As soon as we get a call out, we swing into gear, no matter where we are or what we’re doing, we drop everything to help others.
We know just how treacherous New Zealand’s coastline, major lakes and rivers can be, and we want to do everything we can to keep our community safe on the water.
The greatest satisfaction we get from volunteering for Coastguard is knowing that we are a part of a team that saves people’s lives.”
Ranui Bull, on being a Coastguard Riverton volunteer.
