Bellyful has more than 650 volunteers throughout New Zealand, who prepare delicious meals in a monthly ‘Cookathon’. These are frozen and delivered to whānau with babies or young children who need support.
A new baby is exciting, but can also be exhausting, stressful and isolating. These feelings can increase if the baby is ill or if whānau lack the support networks to help them through challenging times.
These whānau may find the adjustment of having a baby very difficult, or a whānau member may be experiencing postnatal depression. They may be new to their community, or to New Zealand, disconnected from their friends or family and have little support around them.
So, at Bellyful we provide simple, practical help in the form of nutritious meals. There is no financial assessment involved. Our service is based on an emotional need for support.
We believe that it’s more than okay to ask for and accept help – in fact, it’s really brave!
“Bellyful NZ was very much appreciated by myself and my whānau. It meant I could spend longer with my sick baby in hospital knowing that my family at home were well taken care of with meals.”
