Give families access to computers & internet

20/20 Communications Trust

In Christchurch, 2925 families with school-aged children have no internet access at home.* Our Computers in Homes programme aims to connect all Kiwi households with school-aged children to the internet, and gives parents the digital skills needed to support their children's learning. Computers in Homes works with low income communities to help get families connected. We provide training and a computer, as well as subsided internet and technical support for twelve months. Near New Brighton our Computers in Homes programme has been running at Rawhiti School (and Central New Brighton and Aranui Schools - which are now closed) and last year we worked with 20 families there. *2013 Census

Turn the red river zone into a green zone

1951

We are providing an example of how the river red zone could look through planting and improving water quality. A big part of that is involving schools in the project we have initiated in Anzac Drive Reserve with Ngai Tahu called the Mahinga Kai Exemplar, through planting and maintenance days, citizen science days and developing resources about mahinga kai (resources, food and the places where they are gathered).

Enhance our environment to aid our community

PEEEP Trust

PEEEP is a community initiative that has been undertaking environmental enhancement work in the New Brighton area and its environs since 1993. PEEEP uses this work as a means of improving the well-being, self-esteem and skillset of our volunteer staff, many of whom have become marginalised through long-term unemployment or health issues. PEEEP's environmental enhancement work benefits not only our volunteers by giving them a social connection with their community and a sense of belonging as a team member, but also contributes to the well-being of the community at large by providing them a more aesthetically pleasing environment in which to live.

Create a new play area for our youngest children

Rawhiti PTA

We are a volunteer group of parents and teachers who work closely with Rawhiti School, a large, low-decile primary school in the New Brighton area. The current roll of the school is 520, from Years 1-8. We are 100% committed to both fundraising and FUN-raising to help our kids (and their wh?nau) rise above the ordinary. We want our children to have the very best experience at school, so we assist by raising money for necessary equipment and facilities which the school would otherwise not receive funding for, enabling them to deliver an extraordinary curriculum to our children. The add-on effect of our work is helping out the local community too. Funds we have raised in the past 3 years have helped to re-line and heat the school swimming pool, which was subsequently opened to the public of New Brighton every day over the summer holidays. This was in conjunction with another local non-profit group Rawhiti Community Sports Incorporated.
